Classical geometrical approach to circle fitting - review and new developments

چکیده
After a review of the circle fitting issue, we recall a relatively unknown method derived from a classical geometric result. We propose an improvement of this technique by reweighting the data, iterating the procedure, and choosing at every step as the new inversion point the one diametrically opposite to the previous inversion point. © 2003 SPIE and IS&T. Challenges and developments of bioretention facilities in treating urban stormwater runoff; A review
Bioretention or rain garden is a preferable low impact development (LID) approach due to its characteristics which reflect natural water cycle processes. However, this system is still little understood and quite complicated in terms of design and implementation due to many technical considerations. Hence, this paper gives a review of the challenges and developments for the use of bioretention f...

متن کاملDetermination of Principal Permeabilities in Two-Dimensional Fissured Rocks Using Permeability Circle (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Among the many parameters affecting the design of hydraulic structures on fissured rocks are orientation of principal permeability axes and degree of anisotropy of fissured rocks. Geological explorations rarely provide this type of information. If at all the information is available, methods employed are computationally cumbersome and inefficient. A new concept of simple equations and geometric...
متن کاملBertrand’s Paradox Revisited: More Lessons about that Ambiguous Word, Random
The Bertrand paradox question is: “Consider a unit-radius circle for which the length of a side of an inscribed equilateral triangle equals 3 . Determine the probability that the length of a ‘random’ chord of a unit-radius circle has length greater than 3 .” Bertrand derived three different ‘correct’ answers, the correctness depending on interpretation of the word, random. Here we employ geomet...
متن کاملFast line, arc/circle and leg detection from laser scan data in a Player
A feature detection system has been developed for real-time identification of lines, circles and legs from laser data. A new method suitable for arc/circle detection is proposed: the Internal Angle Variance (IAV). Lines are detected using a recursive line fitting method. The people leg detection is based on geometrical constrains. The system was implemented as a fiducial driver in Player, a mob...
